Dunfield Microbe Lab

University of Calgary

The Dunfield lab explores natural and anthropogenic systems through a microbial ecology lens. We have a wide range of projects and a diverse group of staff and students. We are interested in a lot of things: undiscovered phyla, novel engineered ecosystems, unique geological formations, or overlooked metabolic pathways. Our work extends past looking for bacteria, and involves a holistic look at the microscopic community.

We work in collaboration with a wide range of labs within the University of Calgary and beyond, contributing to interdisciplinary projects with big impact. On occasion, we hit the field to collect samples, whether in Canada’s North, the Rocky Mountains, or beyond.
